When I was like 16 I used to promote bands and stuff on a street level. I used to big them all up until they made it big or whatever, and then I'd trash them all for being big. It's like once someone was in on "my secret" I didn't rate them anymore.

Maybe I grew up, maybe I didn't... maybe they were never good to begin with and I got over it. Point is, we're judging this stuff based on the wrong parameters. Who cares if stupid numbers of people hear it. I don't mind sharing something in common with greater numbers of humanity. I want to judge music based on the music itself.

Not feelin the tune, but it's a good look for Dubstep to be noticed by people with that large of a following and having that as a potential avenue to market dubstep to a wider audience. I don't see why we're bitching about it. Don't you want producers to have a chance to eek out a small living on their productions? That would be very sick. Try and keep an open mind. If it's shit, you'll be able to say I told you so... if not, well, good... we get some good music out of the deal. Who gives a shit if people hear it?

yes, it's sadly predictable now. Everybody reacts to topics like this, as if "their" scene or whatever is being ruined or infiltrated by posers and mainsteam listeners.

Is there a place for dubstep/anystep fans to go and discuss the music that we love without having to wade in mundane and often unintelligent meanderings, a page long, before finding a topic that is somehow relevant to the music?

*the question is rhetorical, which i probably have to point out, as well.

Can we have Surface_Tension's post plastered across the top of the board?

I'm old enough and ugly enough to have been through a few scenes, and EVERY FUCKING ONE has had people, right from the outset, claiming that it would be destroyed by success... sometimes it's funny to hear the same things I heard being said about techno 15 years ago, sometimes it's just depressing, but it's always FUCKING STUPID.
