Donny is the king of brutal half step drum & bass!

Goldie (ruffige kru) has made a few sick halfstep tunes also.

haha, nice to see this discussed, it's not long since we put these up:

i very much believe these sounds will prove themselves soon enough and finally all style barriers will fall, it's all about bpm, mood and energy level, styles are obsolete

Check SumOne's latest on planet-mu - 4 tracks of exactly what you're talkin about. Closely related I'd say is "micro-funk" (do people use that term?) which is basically like DNB with a minimal techno soundscape - see BOP & Hidden Paranoid Society

also Breakage has a new track (remix of Phobia & Jubei) that's really deep and excellent,
third track on this mix: http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=92218

saw loxy last night second half of his set he dropped some SICK dark halfstep beats, proper rolling basslines with metalic half step drums over the top, was big.

Loving this style of drum and bass, gets me shocking out everytime.

No.

It's just another form of drum and bass with artists experimenting with rhythms and styles. The same way the technoy dubstep stuff with a 4/4 beat is still dubstep.
The bpms are too far apart for them to merge under one heading.

TBH i reckon the space in between the BPM's of Dubstep and DnB are where the real innovation is going to come from in the next few years...

There's already tunes that are straddling the cusp of the two genres, all that's needed is more people writing tunes at 145 - 165 and you'll be able to start a set with a Mala tune and finish it with an Amit tune without any huge sudden changes in tempo...

Sum One ep is one of the finest releases in any genre of 2009 so far IMO

Shockingly good!

Dissident has been on a halftime micro-funk-ish tip lately too...

Also check the Absys recordings free digital ep by Ultracode

I do a radio show occasionally with some D&B guys one of which is all over this stuff so I just listen to him :) Would like to start buying some if it but I cant keep up with dubstep, funky, skwee and that style of D&B, I'd be broke as a joke. I'll probably buy a few bits soon. Anyway check the last half hour of this set (First hours dubstep) for that halfstep d&b......

The show goes out every tuesday & we try to record as many shows as possible go to http://futurebound.webs.com/ for more info.
