But isnt this is how tit for tat starts? ive never been in the main forum, but been led to believe its just full of trash talk and sillyness.
I dont think naming names is the way forward, just check what threads certain members DON'T post in to give a better, more diplomatic gague of what they are feeling/agreeing with or not, it keeps the balance in what is an otherwise very harmonious place.

Good. And I'm not gonna get into a naming situation for obvious reasons. Likewise. I said it before and I'll say it again, I don't have a problem if it's relevant.
My overall point is, when does a forum stop being a forum and becomes an advertising hoarding?
It's fairly close to that tipping point already.
Lots of people have put time and effort into this site, it'd be a shame to see it all go to pot.
Is all.......
Peace

Edit.
Maybe we could have a 'New Releases' section here as they do in the other forums?
At least then it's fair, and labels have the chance to put up their work.

I get your point too, though as i noticed the main section only has a topic for releases....topic >< section. If it's only a topic no one will post in there for obvious reasons: If 2 labels post their release on the same day, the less hyped one will get left behind as ppl would go on saying their opinions resulting the release having no promotion at all. But having a section might be a good idea...

a new releases board (like the events) where each release is a seperate topic rather than a long thread?
an idea worth looking into?

Like I said I think this
forum works just fine, until this topic was started and I was dumb enough to fall for the bait... I've looked through all 27 pages of posts and nothing has changed at all, same amount of self-promotion...
If you want to boundary it with a 'name change' or rules, then the relevance will be lost in my opinion. If you ban labels from self-promoting, then you should by rights ban producers and DJs and bloggers and pluggers and event-promoters from promoting here too.
It's the same. And can someone define relevant for me please?

Edit.
I'm getting back to the business of discovering, listening to and enjoying new music

Calm down mate, it's up for discussion. I never mentioned banning anyone, and certainly don't believe that's a responsible approach to take. It's an issue that needs to be addressed because that's what happens when things progress.
And-
'rel·e·vant (rl-vnt)
adj.
Having a bearing on or connection with the subject matter at hand'.

this is always going to be a problem on music forums and one that's not an easy one to deal with. you either have to have really strict moderating and delete posts or move them to the right section (not so much the case with advertising but with people posting dubs and mixes etc), which people complain is too harsh and izan; or you leave things with light moderation when necessary and hope that people have the common sense to self-moderate what they post, which i think is working fairly well for the most part here at the moment

could do maybe but that might potentially be worse for both the advertiser and the interested parties... advertisers don't get so much passing traffic, which means listeners miss out on things. and would probably lead to doubling up of topics in the forums
for the most part is everyone happy with things as they stand or do you really think this needs sorting out?

Even though i don't post much on the forum, as a frequent reader i'd say things are good exactly how they are. Like i said before, this way i don't miss out much good music.

If it's just a matter of house keeping then I don't see a problem in creating a sticky thread for new releases.
As for the ambiguous nature of the name of the forum...
