what would you say the problem in America is??

Pkay nailed it. Drugs and Gangs.
Drugs and Gangs are based in poverty. You have to realize that much of America is a 3rd world nation. 1 in 5 to 1 in 4 children live below the poverty line here in the US. The problem is economic in nature. MLK jr realized this and got shot for it (finally an actual conspiracy theory in this thread!).
It's not a conspiracy if you know why he was shot and who shot him.

James Early Ray shot King and was motivated by the Hoovers smear campaign. No real conspiracy.... pretty common knowledge the US gov wanted king dead.

you missed my point

America as a nation isn't a 3rd world country

there is much that can be done to combat the problems in the country, i know you agree with this!

th point was in those other cities, the countries themselves are basically third world countries and they have a lot, lot less resources at their disposal for tackling a) crime and b) ideological and psychological problems with the people in their country brought on by poverty

Incorrect. Guns would get to people who want them regardless of the law. This is how a lot of gangs make their money.

i believe college aged students should be able to carry weapons on campus as long as they have a proper conceal-carry permit. those permits aren't exactly easy to get, especially if you have any smudges on your background. would make a psycho think twice before opening fire on a bunch of innocent people.

i know the ideal solution isn't more guns, but there's no way you're going to banish guns from the world. and even if you did make guns illegal, then only the bad people have them. necessary evil unfortunately.

The right to bare arms was an acceptable request by the american people when the country feared things such as tyranny, dictatorship, and invasion as the country was just forming.

It's really difficult to see those things in our present today, although anything is possible. Seems a bit silly now to have guns though. *shrug*

Simple. If guns are made illegal, then only bad people have them. Them and the government. Almost as scary.

This seems debatable, I could imagine it being the case that good people having more accidents with guns as well. I can see your point though.

Getting side tracked here, but it just so happens that he gets shot when he transcends race and finally plans to addresses economic inequality, in a mass scale, in the nation's capital. We all know who shot MLK, but we don't know really who Ray was. Was it merely George Wallace's campaign, like Palin's targeted democrats, or more, who knows, just a hell of a coinckydinky.

as hard as a conceal-carry permit may be to get, there are kids that can snap due to pressure/failure etc. Giving them guns isn't going to lower the potential for gun violence. I feel safe on campus as is, give every creep I walk by a gun and id be petrified

just because the ability to carry a gun on campus is made available, doesn't mean many people are going to qualify or even want to carry.

school failure is partially due to parents not taking enough interest or involvement in their children's lives, helping out with their homework, and placing pressure on them for grades
there is no need for a kid who hasn't graduated high school or who has failing grades etc to constantly be rewarded with say driving privileges, smartphones (i'm sorry but your studies are your top priority), etc
too many people place all the blame on teachers when it's really their kids or themselves who are the problem

How many people does it take to shoot up a campus? Just one. Doesn't matter if 'many aren't going to qualify'.
It's not about that.

not really.

It'd make it a LOT harder.

not really. it'd just make it more expensive, not more difficult.

But considering how much bullshit gets smuggled in this country each and every day I doubt there'd be much issue.

There's a war on drugs and I can walk 2 blocks down the street and get literally anything I want. The US government cannot control what comes in to this country

Yeah because you do drugs as a hobby.

I couldn't go out now and get a gun. Probably could get hold of one but it would take time. I couldn't just be like oh I'll go and get a gun tonight. I'm sure a lot of people can, but obviously not as many as would be able to do so if they were legal.

Having lethal weapons, designed to kill people, legal, is a fucking joke. There is no argument against that imo.

it's easier to get an illegal gun than a legal one

Like knives? Bow and arrows? Swords? Plenty of legal weapons you can obtain all capable of making one man just as dead as the next.

The problem is that you guys didn't grow up used to hearing about guns. The idea is absurd to you. You fear the gun.

On the flip of that, most americans don't grow up hearing about people being stabbed or hit with brass knuckles and shit like that which is common in your country.

If you asked your average american if they'd rather be stabbed or shot I'd gather most of them would say shot as to them being stabbed is a violent act only associated with serial killers and psychos in the US. I mean seriously who fucking stabs someone?

It's all the context of your society.

if i'm not mistaken, the guy who shot up Virginia Tech was mentally unstable. he was classified as unstable multiple times before the massacre. he was able to buy the guns he used by omitting the fact that he had mental health issues from his background checks. sometimes, people are going to go insane and do something terrible. making things illegal isn't going to stop it.
