yeah i was just curious because im home now from college but then move back to college in september so its hard for me to treat my rooms. someone at gearslutz recommended it for me. i bet arc and a couple of bass traps and panels would do pretty good tho eh?

btw it says its a plugin for your daw. does that mean it would not work with reason/record? or does it not matter?

Yeah its a plugin that goes on your master buss, so Reason is a no-no.

Don't balme you at all. I meant ERGO's good, but not £400 good.

£400 can buy you a LOT of rockwool, timber, cloth and nails to make your own baffles.

Eh? Subs built in to rp8s? Are you sure mate?
Positive, the hole below the big yellow mid-cone is a front firing port.
Also seen on the rp5s but they have nothing down there. In any case they dont contain subs in the traditional sense or else the £400ish rp10 sub would be a bit pointless im thinking??? I assumed that the extended low freq response was due to the size of the cones. Can anyone clear this up?

I can only speak for the 6s and 10s as thier the only ones I've heard in a good environment. The 5s always made me wonder how they fit all that stuff into such a small space and why they bothered. There probably is something down there but with a 5" mid cone there would be very little space for the sub between the cones and amp so its likely pretty useless.

IMO the RP5s are pointless anyway unless your Stuart Little making tunes in a wardrobe somewhere, you have to turn them up to distorting levels just to get a decent output from them.

The RP10s are good for listening to music, but not for mixing. Many producers (including big names like Scott Storch, Timbaland etc) have subs in thier studio but only turn them on after mixing to see if their tracks would sound good in a huge venue with bass-bins and the like where the sub-bass literally kills mice for miles around.

Sorta, it can be dangerous when it gets in your lungs but that's why you build a timber frame around it.

The other alternatives are lots of duvet like materials, compressed cotton, or Auralex foam pads, but the latter will set you back.

Lmao good luck with that. I cant see myself explaining to my lady friend why my walls are covered in egg cartons so I think I'll give it a miss, else she might think I've got some weird egg carton fetish... :)

That's awesome man ^ awesome to hear people stepping their game up, getting some proper monitoring going.

Re Rockwool, the official studies say it is not cancerous, changing prior findings on the material. I've read that study, and researched it a little, and honestly it sounded like an industry whitewash, I read subsequent studies that found that workers in rockwool plants had abnormally high rates of cancer, but bladder cancer I think it was, or liver? Some internal organ that you wouldn't think would be associated with fibrous glass material.

What I've decided to do is go rockwool, 1x frame, then a thin sheet of plastic front and back, sealed, then fabric. I understand this will lower the rockwool's efficiency, but I just can't fill my studio with cancer causing material. Shit is going to be hanging over me 18 hours a day, and another section would be hanging over a dining room table where we eat. I'm not down with that.
