i just decided to switch to digital.
till now it was vinyl only.
it is too much hassle to work with both.

Prefer vinyl anyday but can't afford cutting all the big tunes out there atm

i sometimes wonder if i look like an old relic still buying records. but i love vinyl so who cares eh.
i just wish 12s werent so expensive these days.

Do people think its easier to dj on vinyl or cdj's. I guess digital is easier to carry around especially if your oversees.
I must say though nothing beats a vinyl wheel up.
I think it's easier on decks VS CDJ's, but that's probably because I've only spent 2 or 3 hours on CDJ's. It's MUCH easier to ride mixes on CDJ's because you can see the BPM & it stays locked on.
That's why I went with the time encoded vinyl set up, it's the best of both worlds, and I'm able to actually carry a laptop, a few records, and the USB box as opposed to a crate of records that my bad back will no longer let me haul around.

I totally disagree. Digital can be a pain in the ass. No more rolling in 5 minutes before you set and plugging in your headphones. And instead of looking at the vinyl releases once a week now I have to dig though this forum and myspace and AIM trying to find the best dubs I can. The mixing itself takes more skill as most tunes I play aren't mastered so levels can be all over the place. It is well worth it though. I have met so many great people in my quest for dope music and the sets I play are tailored closer to my tastes.

though i dont got anything against cats who use cdjs/laptop
that being said, theres nothing like seeing someone drop a fresh dubplate, that warm bass hits, and the tune getting a wheel n deal... rewinds on cdjs -- little cheese
but then again -- you know, pinch - underwater dancehall w/ vocals didnt get a vinyl release. so ill play some of those tunes off the cd. same for benga - pleasure (tho i know thatll be on vinyl shortly). ive grabbed an mp3 here and there -- silkie - jazz dubstep was a must.
but when im playing, 99% of what u hear is off vinyl
the sound, the warmth, and the quality cannot be matched!

Digital here.
There are no shops selling dubstep where i live so i couldn't even choose.
Anyway i'm quite happy with wav's, i love the way they sound and i love buying them on the net. The main drawback is that i simply can't have access to releases in vinyl only.

There are plenty of online shops tho.
Anyway, where is the poll for this thread? I vote digital but I keep buying vinyls if I can't do otherwise.

i can't dis too hard on digital tho- my studio is mostly digital...
i like to think my computer is a hardware seq and synth/sampler... heh
i have been using a spring reverb lately... and running my sounds thru an old tascam 4 track for its gain sound, i can't seem to recreate that digitally. and i like using guitar pedals too.
i wish i could work with all hardware, but i fell in love with renoise.
maybe if a cdj feeds me compliments and buys me dinner i will make the switch- hint hint

I disagree, Digital allows me the freedom to buy cross genre knowing that if I can't fit it in with the rest of my collection as it's cost me a pound rather than a fiver- it encourages me to try more ambitious mixing with greater pitch variation and master tempo function.
As a result, when I buy Vinyl, I buy it cos it's the tits of a tune or because I've spent my saturday chatting with the good folks in Rooted records- checking out the the latest white labels and talking about the music I'm looking to buy.
For me, the one compliments the other. The freedom that digital allows has increased the quality and, ultimately, the relative value of my vinyl purchases. it's all good!!

At the minute i only mix vinyl, i'd like to buy some CDJs at some point, maybe only one, but funds are low and they are quite expensive. Does any one know if its worth buying cheaper CDJs or are they a waste of time? I've only ever played on CDJ 1000s and i really liked them, but at nearly £750ish each thats quite alot!!

Good quality cdjs are amazing plus they will be coming down in price soon.
