First off, that snare needs way more beef and cheese. Either lay a kick under it or boost some freqs (around the 200 mark should do). Also
Jesus christ bring that bass down!!! It must be clipping all over the place! When checking your levels the bass should not be peaking over the beat. However, I do like that bassline - cut some of the mid freqs and boost the high end (or shove fuzz distortion on it) to make it crack.
Vocals need to be brought up in the mix and would be nice if you boost the high frequencies and splash some hall reverb all over that.

Working on this one recently, made a lot of progress over the past 2 days.
Tune with an indian female vocal (like Eastern Jam).
Tell us whatchu think... I'm working to get that wobble sounding crispy, I may just change the sound altogether.

here's a new one I'm working on, started out as a dubstep tune but now it has turned into a drum and bass tune. I know it's not the forum for it but please listen and let me know what you think.

A sort of IDM/Ambient influence track I've been making, my rubbish speakers mean I can never get a grip of how much bass there is in my tracks... and that snare on the 3 needs fixing so it fits in with the track a bit better.

Like, ive made a start with this, and in all honesty I have no idea what it is. Its at 135 bpm and has some sub, so im guessing its dubstep...but to me it feels like its teetering on that fine line between potentially catchy and annoying. Only a little 40 second clip (it can be streamed) with no progression or anything, just a couple of ideas for different parts of a tune next to each other...anyhoo, would be dead interested to see what people thought.
My main qualms are with the synth. I know roughly what it is I want to do with the noise, but cant quite seem to get there. Do quite like the whinyness of what I found tho...
edit: Right, ive been having a play with the synth and im muuuuuch happier with this one. Im not sure how but i reckon theres a big tune in there somewhere...just got to work out where lol

Well, im not running off monitors, but the bass levels sounded good to me. Nice, warm and enveloping. Works with the rest of the tune real nice like. And yeah, if anything to me the snare just needs to be that little bit punchier. I guess its not the kind of tune where the snare smaks you in the face, but I cant help but feel the beat would stand out alot more with just a little bit of a play with it.
But yeah, wicked pads and the like. Nice one man, would be well interested to hear a finished copy!

Although its probably not normally my kind of dubstep, I do think the high pitched arpeggio synth things sound sick and could be made into an absoloute monster. For me, there is a few things missing though. The beat itself is really uninteresting if im honest (sorry! but theres no point not saying what you think!) and could do with something to give it more movement, everything seems to rely on the synths, feels like the beat itself is just there because it needs to be (i spose thats not uncommon really in the world of dubstep, but for me the percussion is the most exciting part of any tune).
My other little problem is the bass! Its veeeery possible that its just cos its being played on youtube, but I cant seem to hear any sub! Theres the mid range bass and a kick drum, but I really cant hear anything id call a proper dubstep sub! And...I dont think it gets much more important than that in dubstep

thanks for the nice words and critique! About the drum pattern, you are absolutly right, thats one of the pieces im still stuck/working on, tbh, the drum pattern is made with the default Fruity Loop drumkit, just a little bit compression and EQ-ing on it.
About the bass, I do think it's both, Youtube's compression suck, but I still have to check out the tune on a proper PA (I work with 2 KRK RP5 without sub) maybe I need to layer pure sinesub under the synth.
There's an older version on
my soundcloud, the quality is better there (I uploaded an 450kbps version, maybe you can check out if the subs better there...
thnx man

I personally think you need to EQ that violin so that it sits softer in the mix. I think the melody is ok and that loop doesn't become tiring, so don't worry about that.
I personally, think you need some more lower-end instruments to help fill out the mix in that area, as so far it feels top-heavy.
Overall, good work man, i digg your style. I checked out your other 2 songs too and they are great. I really like Divine Symmetry (would you consider letting me remix it?)
I've got some new material up at
http://www.myspace.com/bugsky if anyone else wouldn't mind have a listen to and giving me some feed. Feedback on either 'Park Grass' or 'Traffic' would be appreciated.

I listened to park grass
I like your drum programming, it works well with the ambience of the track, its a good track!
If I were to change anything I might pump the drums a bit more, but thats just my taste, I don't think theyre too quiet in the mix necessarily, but I want to hear them more, again just a preference...
Good work though, sorry no time to listen to another right now

Got an actual start to a tune made from that first bit now. I know a few things I want to do with the percussion, but this is a pretty good feel for what the tunes about...any thoughts would be sick, this is quite a different sort of thing to what I normally do and its A) good fun, and B) hard to judge meself!
And shall be getting on the case having a listen to some more stuff tomorrow...for now bed. Stayed up too long doing that little intro bit as it is
