My mate Sam, aka fucking wheelchair, has recently jumped on the Dubstep bandwagon, and is constantly posting an entire arsenal of filth on my Facebook page, as well as sending me some of the 'dirtiest' tunes out there.
After calling him a fucking cripple, I asked him whether he actually listened to anything outside of the very narrow filth spectrum, and he told me that he did, and the stuff he listened to regularly was quite dark and experimental! He told me I might not have heard of them!
Excellent, says I, give us an example then, me old mucker!
Of course he pulls out Rusko and Caspa, and then The Others. Why I expected anything more than this, I'll never know, but the point is I like filth but hate fucking everyone.

Croydon really should 'get' dubstep more than it does.
One of my mates posted the Ministry of Sound Comp CD on my FB wall, saying you like dubstep so you must like this. I was like, yeah got some bangers, all about anti-war dub tho. He was like what is anti-war dub? (Obviously checking the tracklisting well). So i posted a link, and he was like yeah its alright but not really a banger.
I know i usually play out the more jump up stuff, but I do enjoy listening and raving to other dubstep too. People need to open their minds more. Ive been to Black Sheep for everything from d&b to metal to hip hop to dubstep. I couldnt just listen to one type of music, and different sounds are where you draw different inspitations from. Narrow-mindedness will ruin just about anything

fuck it, next week ima come down on my lonesome and give the student fucks a piece of my mind/penis... the most annoying thing is that if you try and steer these people onto the correct path you get shouted down for being an "elitist prick" who listens to "boring" dubstep
how is what i listen to boring when every tune you like sounds exactly the same?
i think when you play you should have a massive sign that says "I DO NOT TAKE REQUESTS YOU STUDENT FUCKS, I'M THE DJ SO I SELECT THE TUNES!!!" and then just shout at people who ask for filth or mt eden

I think they need to be corrected in their usage of terms. It is not filth or heavy. It is noise and wobble for wobblesake.
In fact, I think you should stop the set and educate them. Play some Datsik or whatever. Say "This is NOT filth or heavy. Now, this on the other hand is Filthy AND Heavy". Play some Distance or Cyrus.
The system in the Black Sheep is pretty meaty but not quite meaty enough for the full filthiness of Distance or Cyrus to shine through though.

hahaha, it was crazy man, funny as fuck. Mobile phones popping over the booth every now and then with "make it harder" "more filth" and "Mt Eden?" written on them.
I've never seen anything like it ahaha.
I kid you not but a promoter that I am trying to get a gig with emailed me this morning to say he loved my mix but did I play more filth.
What to do?
I explained I play filth but not all the time cause it doesnt work.
man..pistons was hitting out with some utterly amazing hard beats but still the students bayed for MORE FILTH...
I sort of lost it a wee bit when someone kept shouting at the top of his voice, over everything, "THIS IS SHIT...PLAY SOME REAL DUBSTEP"

Well Im just gonna play what I play. If it works it works, if it dont then it will work another time.
Im all for playing requests, if I have a song and it fits I will play it but people asking for ridiculous things is joke. Next time im in LDN im going to hit up Pistons for a Wednesday night boogie.
Get my phone out and text on it
"ply wut u lke, ths is asome!!!!111"

of course, aside from all this was the one guy who came up to say it made his night when I dropped 'Ramp' and if theirs one person like that in a crowd of people I'm happy.
driego, pistons and I defintely just played what we wanted but it is a bit off putting when you have these kids screaming at the top of their lungs that this "ISN'T FILTHY ENOUGH" and "THIS IS BORING!"

I know, I have had it happen myself. Loads of fucking 17 and 18s year olds coming up to me at this underground rave thing I played at asking me for Jakwob.
fucking heartbreaking.
