obviously dubstep is taking a step that some don't want it to.
but really there is no stopping it
imo there are 3 sides
GOOD HYPE (JAKES, SKREAM)
NOISE (.....)
AND NEXT LEVEL (ORBISON, GUIDO ETC)
hopefully the noise will die out. imo good hype needs to be pushed more, it needs to be brought to the people who are into the noisy bullshit.

it was called grime.....the term dubstep isnt as old as ppl pretend it is....grime came before dubstep..then ppl shot off into this dubstep thing...the same as people have shot off into the future garage thing
its called progression and seperation...

grime was still before dubstep
both went different directions....one went more dubby a wobbly,the other got faster and added orchestra hits and the sub bass was replaced with more mid basses...
i like both genres alot
both are important for me, grime more i suppose,as it was what i liked before dubstep arrived...

The reason Joker gets called Dubstep is the same reason my music used to get called Dubstep back in 2004.
Its too structured and intricate on its own for the average grime listener to be labelling it as grime when you put it next to most producers beats which are built in loops of 16's and 8's.
Its built as instrumental music so you got to make it interesting, where as most grime producers build a riddim with the mc vocal in mind. This is something I never used to do, same with Joker.
I just spotted somebody actually quoted an old interview I did back in 2005 on here....
"On a final note: stop calling my music dubstep! It's simply grime without a vocal on top of it wasteguys! You want to hear dubstep listen to DMZ, Youngsta, Loefah, Hatcha - they are the dons and my sound is totally different to that. Next person to write that I am dubstep will get a wonderpalm to the jawside with my Nintendo Powerglove"
Thats nuts I can remember actually typing that!! Whats worse is people weren't calling it Dubstep back then, they were calling it FWD beats. Which is a rubbish name to start with.
Back then Dubstep was all sub-bass and film samples though, the lines have blurred a lot since then, dubstep now does actually sound quite similar to the grime tunes I was making back then.
Now I just make whatever. I take influences from all sorts. It still sits somewhere between dubstep and grime but you can't really place it anywhere specific.

just as they are now, super blurred... weasel thinks phonebox is "future garage" i think it's dubstep, whatever... who cares what was/is called what? i love the good dj's like Oneman, Untold, Iknonika, Kode9 etc... who don't give a shit about genre definitions and play old stuff with new stuff, too many people are so quick to jump on the "new" thing and leave the "old" thing behind. i gotta lot of respect for those who continue to respect the classics and use them in conjunction with the Next stuff
still think it's hilarious that people care about the name of the music they listen to and say silly things like, "i listen to future garage now" like it's the only music they listen to all day, all night

People constantly confuse grime / dubstep now. Today's dubstep sound is closer to the grime sound I loved in 2004 than anything "grime" i've heard for years

Biggest is Joker, his sound is proper smooth and krisp, could easily cross over mainstream where the music a few yrs back was proper underground, but now it seems like you cant catch him at any club nights just huge events or festivals and he has moved away from the experimental sounds he would play. Guidos stuff is really for ladies very garage instrumental stuff, but still cool. Starkey is in a league of his own and can be crazy, well talented.
basically im saying dubstep has gone commercial and moving into the mainstream and their be a new sound emerging soon enough.

indifferent, i always find new tunes that blow me away with the older sound of the genre and how it's progressed. granted gotta sift through a lot more filler and garbage tunes now, but that happens as any genre progress and amasses more and more producers and a following.
