I wouldn't call half the people pissing and moaning in that thread 'Junglists'. If they were 'Junglists' they'd listen to music that actually sounded like jungle, instead of the pish that gets played in the big raves nowadays.

If anyone's interested in hearing some decent drum and bass, I did a mix a couple of weeks ago which pretty much covers all the bases of good dnb, from more experimental choppy and mimimal things, through to bass-heavy Bristol-style rollers and techy stuff as well. Few classics in there too!

i mentioned dubstep to someone who hasnt listened to dnb in years and he says "dubstep? oh yeah, thats that music where the entire fanbase hates dnb, right?"

i saw large amounts of animosity towards dnb from dubstep heads long before i ever heard anyone speak ill of dubstep from the dnb camp. that's a silly thing to just now "notice" sek. personally, i think alot of that negative energy reflecting from dnb is quite possibly a reaction to the attitude given to people involved in dnb from the dubstep heads.

if people werent such pretentious elitist pricks on the internet when it comes to music, perhaps things would be flowing in a more positive fashion. i can definately say this for both dnb, especially for doa, and dubstep with this forum which everyday feels more and more like doa.

especially towards technical itch. you look up any thread on this forum and someone mentions tech itch and all of a sudden 15 people step forward and are like "he sucks, he sucks, i dont like it, he sucks".

i dont remember the dnb scene stamping thier foot on the ground screaming "you cant come in our exclusive clubhouse!" when john tejada started writing and releasing plates.

when you people are like "if you werent here from the start, then you're not official" about dubstep, then in my opinion, you are mudering your own scene and are nothing but a big piece of shit roadblock that does nothing but stunt the growth of dubstep.

how do you expect to make any progress or expand your scene and your sound if youre going to shun everything and anything that comes along that's different? who gives a fuck what "scene" you are from? the fact of the matter is that probally about 50% of you people came from a "scene" to begin with.

in fact, sometimes i wonder if some of these negative heads around here are the way they are because:

1) they are failed rejects from the dnb scene who never made it and are angry becuase they wasted all thier money buying records or wasted alot of time and money buying gear and writing shitty tunes

or

2) because it's something "fresh and new and underground and hip!" and just so happened to be at the right place at the right time and now feel like they have the executive privilage to "reign supreme" and shun all those who the sound interests who come from the dnb scene. these are no better than the fuckfaces who don't listen to ANY mainstream music simply due to the fact that they want to be associated with the mainstream. hate to break it to ya, but those types of people are conformists in the worst way.

or

3) a combination of both.




whatever the matter, dnb is honestly in a creative slump right now, whereas dubstep is really dope. why can't people just come to one understanding that the music theyre listening to is garnering attention because it's quality? im sure ammunition isnt stopping a clubber from walking into FWD because he has a renegade hardware t-shirt on, are they? perhaps if that is the case, then you people can be as prejudice and spiteful as you want to.

I really think this is subjective and more the result of location than anything else.
You know my history and where I come from. When we started doing dubstep in Toronto I honestly thought that the dnb community here wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

Boy was I wrong.

The dnb community here really has a bone to pick with dubstep. I think that was VERY apparent when we were forced to have skream play in the same room as dillinja last year and a few hundred disgruntled junglists would yell out "fuck off what is this shit, play some jungle, you suck" during the quiet parts in his sets.
In contrast I'm sure it's different elsewhere, apparently in calli dnb and dubstep live together quite nicely. Maybe the same is true down south?
But here it aint like that at all. Hate on dnb message boards is rampant. Some of it being instigated by dnb players in Toronto not just fanboys.
Of course it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

No, neither have, but honestly, I WOULD PREFER TO BE IN A ROOM WITH A FAIR RATIO OF GUYS TO GIRLS THAN A FUCKING SAUSAGE FEST. And listening to a form of music that I like. I don't get that with DnB. Dubstep nd similar genres have that.

Down south, with what I've seen so far at the one party we had in the DC area, dubstep seems to be welcome with open arms from the local DNB kids. I saw heads come out to hear dubstep that I wouldntve seen otherwise at any other party. Everyone's opinion of the sound seemed very positive and many people were excited. It was the most beautiful thing I'd witnessed in a long time - positive thinking.

I guess there's gonna be stnuc in every genre that make things look bad. It's unfortunate, but it happens.

Im from south western ontario, soo my main scene i grew up in was based in Toronto. And Sek is telling no exageration of the truth. I would say I know 10 buddies. that dont bad mouth dubstep. Like honestly, people who I know for a fact know notta about what they're speakin' just sit there and cut it to shit, if i even mention the word. Im going to Loefah alone for fuk sakes... (i dun mind anyways....)
I try to explain to them, thats its nothing that they assume it is, and Coki, skream, benga and techitch are not the only dubstep producers out there..... and that theres a flavour for everyones taste,,,;) {almost}.

There's still quite a few people from the dnb scene here who are completely against dubstep. Their loss. Why pigeonhole yourself into one thing when you can embrace more and enjoy it all (cept for clownstep)
