I'm looking for headphones for DJing for arround 100 EURO (80GBP). I looked up HD25's but 200E was a bit steep for me right now, so i'm looking for headphones that are good for the price, and if i eventually get 25s i would use them as a regular listening pair.

I found:

Sony MDR-V55

Tried a pair today, sounded good, the isolation was also good (i think), they sat nice on ears and were easy to manipulate but my concern was the cable, it's a bit short (1,2m) and it was not detachable, i'd rather have phones with a detachable cable.

then for the same price there are Pioneer HDJ500s

No idea about the sound or construction, they look pretty robust tho and have a long detachable cable.

and a bit more pricey there are HD25 SPIIs


No idea about the sound aswell but i assume it would be somewhat comparale to normal 25s but by reading this thread i have an impression they're not worth it and it's better to wait for the regular 25s (?). Also im a little bit curious about the build quality, they dont look as robust as their big brother. And my only experience with sennheiser ended by a reliabilty failure.

both of those probably wont be too good. Especially the pioneers, good dj gear, terrible headphones. Dunno how much it'd be in pounds but I got a pair of Ultrasone hfi-580 for about $120 US, they're pretty good for DJ'ing IMO (slightly boosted bass, good isolation, overall very good sound for the price). Chuck up a thread on head-fi.org and they can probably help you out a lot better than i can

It's all about the Audio Technica ATH-M50s.

Got those Sennheiser HD25-1 ii, tested them with RSD - Mario Kart 1 and TNGHT - Bugg'n. Very impressed

Am I right in saying the cable hangs from the left ear?

I have klipsch image ones, and they have been doing a good job since I bought them.

I'm looking for a decent pair of budget headphones. My budget is around £50. I'm not a producer or DJ just an avid listener of the genre.

I have A&H Xone headphones, you can buy 4 of them for the price of those 25's.

Wells I asked mostly out of curiosity, they'll be used for djing strictly.

For DJ'ing I'd probably say the oft mentioned Sennheiser HD25-I or AiAiAi TMA-1's.

I've heard good things about Ultrasone DJ1 Pro as well.

Yeah I do often hear good things about sennheiser, not heard of the latter. I'll investigate.

I got a some average pioneer headphones (I'm a bit of a fanboy) but they snapped the other day...

I just got a pair of TMA-1's from AiAiAi (they were sponsoring the event I played tonight), so will try to do a comparison between them and the HD 25's tomorrow.

Okay, I've been using the TMA-1 a bit over the past few days, and my initial reaction is that the sound quality isn't quite as good as the HD25's. It's by no means bad, but especially the low end is less defined in the TMA-1's. The mids are a bit less clear compared to the HD-25 as well.

Overall I'm definitely going to keep using my HD-25's for DJ'ing and just wear the TMA-1's when I'm going outside or whatever (if for some reason I won't be using my in-ears). They do look a lot nicer than the Sennheiser

But I guess at the end of the day it's all about personal preference. My best advice is to take your iPod or whatever device you use for listening to music, go to a store and try all the pairs you're interested in with some tunes that you know well.

Have had a set of AiAiAis since New Years, can safely say they're worth the money. I've never used the HD25s though so I can't compare them like Reese has done above.

Sound quality is great, I find that they pack quite a punch, hooked up to the laptop or to an iPod. Sturdy too, the build quality is top notch from the jacks to the cord to the headband. If you've a wide head there may be an issue with tightness I'd say though.

had mine for TEN YEARS now and still going strong. Replaced the wires for the second time last night (£25), and was struck by just how ridiculously good the design is - all parts changeable (wires, ear pads, band pads), new parts slot in so easily - they look brand new again. Hadnt used em for a couple of weeks and listened to them last night and fuck they sound good...
can't really look further than hd25s in my opinion unless you got £300+ to spend

^^^ i ended up getting AKG K518s, read a lot of positive reviews on the interwebs so i gave it a go...
my only concern is the thin cable, but aside from that they seem to be great, gonna test them properly in few hours

Would you recommend the HD 25-SP ii or the HD 25-1 ii? Is the only real difference between the two the comfort level when you wear them for a long time?
