he is just a kid though. one of the main hints is that he probably pays DJs from his pocket money, which is why $80 is such an absurd amount.

If his parents can buy him CDJ-800's I'm sure they can manage to fork out a bit to pay DJs...

seckle summed this whole kid up in one paragraph, and was not starting a UK vs USA thing. he was trying to give you some context, and you guys are like "fuck off seckle we hate you for some reason". you should actually read what he said

^^it does seem like he's defending it tho to me... obviously there are a few clued up in americans in this thread... many of us were completely ignorant once too... i don't understand why ignorance and a poor work ethos should make pricks like this more tolerable somehow?? so, here's what i hate about dj culture in the US.
seckle wrote:you guys grew up on sound system culture in the UK. we have NOTHING resembling that here.
sound system culture and the history (especially for the 90's) of edm it not that difficult to learn about... i think whats to blame is the celebrity-worship and immediate-satisfaction culture in America. The idea of going out for a night and enjoying mixes in a dark room doesn't make sense to most of these kids. They don't have the attention-span to even hear a blend. they need lasers, fog machines, skin, no room to move, and rap remixes.
You go to some nights and about 50% of the crowd is just aspiring djs and promoters trying to get people out to their party the next weekend. All these djs so wrapped up in promoting themselves and putting on parties but who still don't understand how to beatmatch in ableton...and yet are convinced they're going to get an EP signed any day now....
and its so FUCKING annoying that so many kids decide they are the biggest dubstep or electro or trance fan but never bother to look beyond youtube links and mixes their friends pass along.
There are just a lot of lazy self absorbed fucks in America. its really really irritating, esp if you don't live in NYC or LA...

america's hip hop culture and sound (for obvious reasons) is indescribably better than ours though so I don't know why ppl complain.
