i dont think its as big a problem as yr making it out to be to be honest. we can all take a bit of push and pull as long as it doesnt overshadow propper discussion and in most cases i dont think it does.

on the other hand, i think forum death is more like too many locked threads and police-state shit like that.

i wouldnt worry about it though

that's an exaggeration. i'm just saying the people who run the forum and the people who post on the forum are responsible for the type of place it becomes. locking a nasty thread or warning someone who's routinely being offensive is more desirable than alienating members who put effort into building the scene via the forum. that's all.

as long as your tastes don't include anything forward thinking, or NOT dubstep--then yea.. all will be good. as soon as you mention anything else... WATCH OUT.
can we expect a forward-thinking post at any point soon?! and are you dubmugga in disguise?
I was wondering if this guy was really Dubmugga???? There at least related!!!!!

this is the first time I've been on in almost a week. The attitudes around here have gotten very antagonistic.

I'm trying to stay out of the way of internet banter these days, but there has been a lot of crap being spouted of late - perhaps the product of worlds colliding since this large influx of new heads has occurred.

As for the separate 'General' & 'Music' forums, I don't see the point - it would only be worthwhile at all if the main forum itself covered over a page per day. At the moment by the end of one day, there are still threads which were last posted in yesterday, so it's not like offtopic threads are clogging anything up.

I moderate a forum which is a shitload busier than this, and in the last few years has gone from being a pure DnB board, then expanded to all music, and now is just a forum covering Bristol, music, clubs and beyond. We've never needed separate forums for music and banter, indeed I think separating them out like that discourages people from seeing/posting in threads which they might not otherwise.

ok but how will the scene ever grow without new followers?

Like I said mate - I try not to chew the internet fat too much these days, especially discussing the banter on a specific forum. :?

To answer your question tho, I made no value statement on the influx of new fans of the dubstep scene and particularly members on this forum. The point I was trying to make is that numbers have swollen greatly since the beginning of the year, and with a lot of new members joiing any forum in such a short space of time, you have to expect the following:

people not understanding others' sense of humour
people asking the same simple questions over and over
people arguing about the same old sh*t - MP3s, dubplates, CDs vs Vinyl etc etc

particularly from people who are completely new to net forums and the associated etiquette.

big enuff so that it reaches across the world-not saying mainstream but at the momment brazil and jamaica are lovin the sound---portugal--poland--etc etc

itll grow by its self

i guess i would just like the scene to make enuff money so that its comfortable-and we can get full releases sooner

the growth of a 'scene' isnt important, its not like its a race or contest in my opinion, but its the attitudes and not the number of people of any 'scene' that insure its survival or more importantly, its creative health. i for one dont care if dubstep ever grows beyond the level its at now...
i enjoy the music and dont mind what i have to go through to obtain it or enjoy it. im not going to let some bad attitudes or closed mindedness keep me from enjoying the music, its just less likely that i will be engaged in any 'scene'... maybe my expectations are too high, its just that i know i wasnt crazy when i felt that there was something compelling about this sound and the people involved. its that love that will keep me around, not the naysayers or whatever...
