I whole heartedly agree on the drum pattern thing, check out some of the labels i mentioned and I'm pretty sure you'll agree with where I'm coming from.
Zinc was the first to be recognised outside of the small circle of peeps in the know, BUT he was the tip of the iceberg when 138 trek came out.

What Reso jam would you consider breakstep? I am def down with some Reso productions but I can't think of any that are even slightly breaky. I must have some holes in my collection

Couple of them are still on dub eh? Metal Slug and Curse Dub, I guess I see what you are saying. The breaks are buried so much in the mix I don't really think of them as being breaky tunes.
But if you like that stuff you might like the tune I posted in the dub section earlier

Just reading Woofah (and may i say what an excellent publication it is, so go buy that shit), more specifically the scuba interview where he thinks breaks, I'm assuming ala breakstep, brings the rave aspect which he doesn't particularly enjoy. Funny considering more than any other label bar the 'storming' camp, they initiated and continued the breaks tradition in dubstep.
I can see why he removed himself from the epicentre though. Distance creates perspective. It must be hard being in london and retaining some form of objectivity and passion.

experimenting with dubstep, breaks, breakstep, whatever, it's just music and if you can mix them together in a rockin set it doesn't really matter what you call it
