Nah, it was right the first time. You cant deny the rock, punk, electro, disco, pop, etc. influences in early hip hop. Some of the first hip hop shows were at CBGB's in NYC with punk/new wave artists like Blondie and the Ramones on the same bill with Kool DJ Herc.

Hip hop was/is a mash of everything. To say it was from any one or two styles is wrong.

Also, country is not funk or dub, neither is trance, therefore everything is not dub & funk.

from the old school roots hip hop like Run DMC and NWA

to the new school stuff like Aesop Rock and Immortal Technique

and the early original screwed and chopped music

its a great poetic style of music

unfortunately, shit like Lil' Wayne and Usher and Soulja Boy is infecting the radio airwaves and infecting the minds of todays youth, they think this shit is hip hop, but it is nowhere near hip hop or rap, its just commercial music crap

have you heard some of this Soulja boy bullshit? fuckin simple 808 beats with a horribly made saw synth looped over and over with some little fuckin 16 year old cigarette yealling "YAHHH BITCH YAHHH!" in a microphone

and the use of all the autotune and melodyne these days appalls me

its disgusting that people actually listen to this music and actually think they like it, because they think its what they are supposed to like and party to

my girlfriend used to listen to this shit and think that all these "hip hop" clubs were where all the fun is at. Then i took her to a rave with dubstep and electro house, and showed her what some real dance music is, haha, she never looked back!

lil wayne is actually pretty talented, just makes way too much music and is inconsistent.
