I think the main difference between hd dvds and blu-ray aside from the HD is the storage size, you can fit a whole lot more on a blu-ray disc.

Imo, if you want an all around multimedia device go for the PS3 but if you just want good gaming go for the 360. I bought a PS3 on release date, had it for under a year then sold it for an XBox, it was fucking boring. All the hyped up promised stuff was delayed to ridicilous levels, games that were on both consoles ran poorly with shit frame rates on the PS3 and the online was nothing compared to Xbox Live.

The music, photo, video storage and compatibility was good on the PS3 though (like the rest of the multimedia functions) and when you did play online, it was for free and the gamers on there were more casual and there for fun unlike the obsessed nerds you get on Live.
The difference is storage capacity which is huge. On a dual sided, dual layer DVD the most you will get is 15 gigs where a single sided, single layer blu-ray will hold 25 gigs and a single sided, dual layer blu-ray will hold 50 gigs.

This is what enables blu-ray to have full high-definition video and full uncompressed audio. HD-DVD is dead because every major motion picture studio has gone blu-ray and you can't even find HD-DVDs anymore let alone find someone making them.

Sony is losing the console battle by a couple million units, but micrsoft is fucked in the entertainment department because they backed HD-DVD. They were afraid to take a risk and go with the better format and failed. I bet all the 360 owners who bought the HD-DVD drive are pissed at being out a few hundred quid for something completely useless.

Blu-ray is also beneficial to games, not just movies. The increased storage capacity gives developers a lot more freedom in multiple departments including graphics, game size, and level size. Metal gear solid 4 is a PlayStation exclusive because when it was released on PS3 it was a single disc where if it had been released on 360 it would have had to been 3-4.

The only noteworthy games that Xbox has that PS3 doesn't is Halo, gears, and left for dead. PS3 has Metal Gear Solid, Killzone, , and God of War 3.

Saints row was a 360 exclusive, but when Saints Row 2 came out it was multi-platform. Final Fantasy 13 was going to be a PS3 exclusive, but it has been announced that it will be on 360 as well.

The age of "better games" is dead because Software companies are drifting away from exclusives because they have to in these hard times. It is an undeniable fact that you will make more money if you release your game on multiple systems.

What do you mean HD is good enough? You can't get a full HD movie on DVD and HD-DVD is officially dead so LOLWUT?

CoD2, DOA4, Virtua Fighter 5 with online, Prey, Crackdown, Fable II, Forza, Project Gotham 3+4

Neither console has shit games, 360 just has more good ones.
