Adding Weight to a rimshot?

I'm working on a track thats got a rim shot instead of snare. With a snare I usually layer it up to get a stronger smack out of it, what can I do with the RimShot to give more of a bang.
I've been playing with compressors and its not sounding to bad but I just ask to see if there as any other methods out there

layer with a clap, tom /any other percussion sound
compress,
saturate,
distort,
eq boost in the low-mids
I'm just guessing here man, good luck with the rimshot instead of a snare, sounds really cool on older dub tracks, glad to see somebody still wanting to use it

you normally layer snares...er, why would it be any different with a rimshot? clack of a rimshot on top, meat of a snare underneath, no?

best tip i heard from someone out there
when any sample is lacking the mid bassy whack
band pass a kick to the exact frequency you want and layer it in and turn it down until its just felt

Thanks, lots of great tips there, the one about band passing the kick sounds interesting, its common sense when I think of it, but I'd never would of thought of it

Try layering it with a pitched down version of itself and then messing with that.

in dub and reggae if there's a rim shot on the 3 it's often layered with a kick - sounds nice and meaty. it does sound a bit weird though if you use the same kick on the 1.
I'd try layering the rim shot with a lped kick so that it's just the thump, and play with the asdr to make it fit nicely, and if you're gonna have unlayered kick elsewhere deal with the serperately...

put another copy in your sampler i na different group, pitch it down about 5 or 7 semitones, shape it with a couple of filters (hp and lp) and a volume envelope.

Experiment with EQ'ing out a 'hole' for it in the mix.
I often find subtraction, rather than addition, yeilds better results.
