Between a pair of 1200's with a laptop and Serato, and a high end Midi Controller and a laptop (i.e. Vestax VCI-100)?

I mean besides looking cooler with your Technics and mixer and having to carry around more shit to gigs, Serato isn't really spinning vinyl.
I honestly don't see the difference between the two.
I am dying to know what the fuck is up with all these Serato DJs dissing controller DJs.
Both Serato users and Midi Controller users can cheat if they want to, and both can spin legit too so...

Someone elaborate.

look: you only buy 1200's when you are a vinyl junky. Only the tracks you made yourself or tracks of your buddies or tracks you can't find on vinyl you can then play out with serato. To go 100% serato with no vinyl at all is just the biggest waste you can imagine

btw hows the weather in Haifa?

You will piss off every DJ and engineer before and after your sets and will limit where/when/how you can DJ with a laptop and MIDI controller!

Plus you are completely at the mercy of your inbuilt soundcard unless you buy a decent DAC

Most of the DJ's I see that have Serato use it as a good looking, expensive subsitute to a MIDI Controller in order to (I'm guessing) feel more authentic\look cooler\have the right to call themselves vinyl spinners and look down upon MIDI Controller users like me... I have nothing against Serato users, I even envy them because they have the feel of authentic vinyl at their fingertips with the comfort of a MIDI Controller.

I only look down on Serato users who look down on Controller users like me, when they themselves are MIDI Controller users with really expensive equipment...
As long as I'm not pressing sync and keeping my set completely legit, I don't see why me being unable to afford Turntables (atm) makes me a 'less authentic' DJ.
I can honestly say I can DJ with my laptop screen closed but that would lead to picking random tracks which may or may not go together...

-You could teach a semi-retarded monkey fetus to connect the laptop to one of the channels on the mixer and use that channel as a master (as in set the master gain and not touch it afterwards).

-I wouldn't play out with some built-in sound card piece of shit $6 Toys'r'us controller, even though my set up may not be the most glamorous (Vestax VCI-100 and an NI Audio DJ 2) it sounds fucking sweet on a system. And, even though it's probably undetectable by the human ear, I'm pretty sure the 100's response time (high resolution pulse sensor) is faster than the response time of the basic Serato-Laptop-1200 set-up I have been seing a lot lately...

I could whine more but i'm starting to hallucinate violins.

People use Digital vinyl systems because they are used to and enjoy the feel of spinning vinyl.

You can't teach a DAC to change itself into a decent model though.

the difference is that with serato it feels exactly the same as records. which is better.
