most of the artists who are cited as being the bigger names in "Drumstep: are dnb producers who started making dubstep now combined the two
the sound was around long before this term and before dubstep, just nowhere near as popular back then or prolific

this has been around for time, this is just drum n bass,

bare popular straighout d n b artists do it, hazard, original sin, taxman etc.. jst half step, some fat tunes though.

sub genres are there just as descriptive terms. Someone says to you that so and so just made a new Drumstep tune, then you know what it is. Saying "Drumstep" is easier than saying half speed DnB or 175bpm Dubstep. no?
