To me, these guys are the most criminally underrated groups. IMO, they strike gold on both production and lyrical value. Perfect combination of the two. They've been around for a while now but not very well known. Huge fan of all their works. Mostly on Botanica Del Jibaro, City Centre Offices and Hometapes
-CYNE
I'm a big fan of the more underground stuff:
Jedi Mind Tricks
Binary Star
Seven Star
Cunninlynguists
Blackstar
Blackalicious
Cannibal Ox
Company Flow
Jean Grae
Bahamadia
Living Legends
Madlib
Quasimoto
MURS
Shad
Dilated Peoples
Gangstarr
Slum Village
Hieroglyphics
Wu of course

I really really rate 50 Cent , once you look past all the "commercial " crap he gets linked to he has very solid rhymes

Its funny how things go- Hip Hop had a good run in club land and certainly the golden era of 86-90 (when so much great music in so many genres emerged) was a GREAT time- when Rave hit a lot of peoople jumped off the Hip Hop scene and of course missed some great music the Pete Rock, Das EFX, Ultra, Cypress Hill, Hardknox, Brand Nubian, Leaders of the new school, Lords of the underground, Wu etc
Anyways fast forward to today........
For upfront underground independent as well as classicHip-Hop and related beats check the Funk by Funk Radio show Mondays 10pm til 12am on Inspirationfm.com the frst hour is usually when this stuff gets played
in a strange 'connect the dots' type fashion here is a soul/disco/oldhouse mix from easy mo bee. (made beats for channel live, biggie, das fx, woo ha, lost boyz.... east coast badman)
This is the music of my teen years, its why I got into Djing and why im now so obsessed with funk, soul and original breaks.
This mix I did about 4 years ago contains some great tracks.
