Hello people.
I have so many questions about different techniques of resampling and the pros/cons of them. But for now I'm just going to ask one question.
What are the benefits of resampling ex. a massive patch with effects on it (except for glitching up the sound).
Please tell me why you resample.

well one big reason is because it helps save CPU. you've probably realized that your DAW runs slower when you've got 20 massive patches playing at once. also some people prefer to work with audio. I don't get why, it just comes down to personal preference.

It saves time and CPU in the long run when using stupidly long FX chains and constant automation - it also forces you to commit to a sound for further manipulation that you can't do in midi (reversing/chopping etc).
If you cba, don't bother.

I see you're an Ableton user. It's pretty easy in Ableton. Just create an armed to record audio track, open up the I/O section, adjust the settings accordingly, and then record your patch playing whichever MIDI notes you want.

I don't resample often because the only way I know how to resample (in FL) takes up too much time.

How do you do it?

say I wanna bounce a bass sound to audio, I'd put edison at the end of the FX chain, change edison to record on play, play the bassnote in the pattern so it's a perfect timed loop then drag and drop into the playlist. Maybe its just me, but doing that for about 10-15 patches would take me ages.

Ah okay I wondered if you may have been doign what I did ages ago - bouncing loops directly from the playlist using the export function, takes ages as it "renders" everything even if you have one element solo'd in the mixer.
I like the record on play feature, prevents messing around with mis-timed loops, I don't think it's too much hassle - that's how I generally fuck up reeses to bring back into Kontakt.
Sometimes I use the render mixer channel feature too, it's useful if you wanna bounce things to stems i.e. 5 basses at once.

If you're too lazy to route a bass to a mixer channel, press CTRL+E or whatever it was, hit record and play then drag the sample back into the playlist... I dont have words. It's simple as fuk

Maybe I'm just not as dexterous with my mouse. Or I should learn some useful shortcuts, because I work as fast as your average elder learning to use google when trying to resample; slowly looking through the plugin picker for edison, etc.

It's way easier than using edison or exporting the track:

It was more intended for dotcurrency. I read your post. I also mention a few reasons why you might want to resample for the OP's sake.

you can use song-position dependent modulation sources like synced LFO's and performers, then move the sample around on the grid, chop it up, edit it to get new and interesting phrases.

Oh that's a good one. I don't think anyone has mentioned time stretching audio clips, yet, either. Or dropping the wav into other plugins that use resampling techniques like Harmor, or FL Granulizer.

Granulizer is awesome when you get down to using it right.

This is what how I've wanted to bounce audio for the longest.... thank you so much. -tear-

I didn't read all the posts here but I have a really simple technique. (for ableton live)
1. Insert MIDI notes to the instrument that you want to resample.
2. Freeze the track by right clicking and clicking on the "freeze track" option.
3. Create a new audio track.
4. CTRL drag the frozen midi block to the audio track.
This is the method I find easiest and best
