best filter to use for growls?

if you are trying to make some sick ass roars what would be the best filter? LP, HP or BP? and would you prefer a flanger or a phaser?

If your looking for the typical Skrillexy roar synth (eg. the one in kill everybody), then you can go wrong with a highpass with a pretty high resonance. Also massive's double notch filter fed into a lowpass works nicely.

i wouldn't use camelphat though, i think it sounds super digital, i would rather use just a simple filter, a free one like Crayon filter. Google it, it does the trick for me ( distance uses it in a tutorial ), just mess around with the filters and automate the cutoff, gives you some serious movement.

BP filters are nasty. You just have to EQ/compress it afterwards to get some thickness

Bandreject/Double notch in Massive is amazing. Shame you can't use Massive as an external effect

theres an FX version that comes with the full Synthmaster so maybe you could look into it
just thought id suggest
also i agree with who said sherman filterbank, sounds like NI Driver but 100 times better & way more flexible.

if you`re not gonna be scientific about your growl`s and want to get a growly type sounds as fast as you can then wow filter on vowels and bandreject gives decent results.

I use a comb filter for most heavy sounds, gets results if you know what you're doing with it.

ya anything that is midrange and sounds dirty im goin for. EQs. Boosting and cutting a particular frequency along with the movement of the sound is the best for growling.
