What decks to buy

With in the budget of around 600 quid for a pair
MP3 decks or Vynil ?
to play drum and bass mostly.
oh and that are good for a first timer

this
technics are by far the best so you're only going to end up buying them anyway to replace whatever you buy first so you're best off not wasting your money on anything less, assuming you can afford to get technics straight off of course. although tbh i'd say if you can't, just save until you can

VESTAX!
yeah technics are good, but you cant get very creative with them
they are industry standard because nobody wanted to buck then trend, and try something else,
everyones been forcefed them as "the one to get"
i swear by my vestax at home, they are so much fun to mix on, yet whenever i play out the venue will have technics, so u gotta be adaptable
dont get me wrong i dropped a 1210 down some concrete stairs whilst going up to a studio for radio and it still worked fine after

this is precsicely why I got my techs, and will until the standard changes... there are many good decks out there now, I would say any of the higher end from any company (except Numark, they couldnt make a good turntable with Technics schematics and engineers) would do you well... I had a pair of Stantons that were perfect for a first pair, but after playing a few gigs on Techs I went and bought some.

Which is a bit confusing... do you mean CD decks or turntables, or Serato/Torq vs all vinyl?
I would personally get turntables, and go for vinyl at first, then buy Serato and use both. I would, and in fact I did.
I absolutely hate playing on CDJ's (I just dont like the way they feel) and for as many clubs as Ive seen with Pioneer CDJ1000's Ive seen quite a few much less desirable CD decks in clubs, where Ive never seen anything but a pair of Technics for turntables at a club.

I'd recommend getting some sounlabs and some sandpaper slipmatts. If you're stuck for cash though you can actually play dnb on a sewing machine, not a lot of people know that.

yea man are they the pdx3000? The straight arem tings? Quality tuntables man, i used these at a party and fond them tight as fuck. Cheaper as well.

Yea man fair point, but aslong as you dont plan on tkaing them anywhere theres not much risk of you dropping them

ive got a set of stanton T-120's which do the job well, although for some reason i always prefer the tone arm on technics as opposed to the straight one on the stantons?

I had some Stanton's and switched to Technics for that exact reason. I'm still shit at mixing, but the technics just feel much nicer.

was gonna go for technics when i bought my decks but ended up finding some vestax for about 150 (incl. 3 channel mixer), really like them and despite being 10 + years old the pitch control is still really responsive and they maintain a regular speed, shows they are tough as fuck also
like everyone says though, technics are a staple favourite and will mean you won't have trouble adapting if you start playing out, best bet is maybe try out a few different decks that your friends have, or try out some in a shop that sells turntables and see which one's feel best for you
