Ableton's Loud Output (+ free 320)

I've noticed Ableton naturally seems to have louder output and my mixes seem many dbs louder than other peoples mixes (trying to determine if its in a bad way) even though I turn down the master -3.0db in the DAW.
I turned it down a little more than usual in my most recent tune (MIA remix) but I still hear other mixes even lower in volume.
What's your take on that? Should I start turnin shit down? It sounds fine to me when I've heard it on its own but back to back w/ someone else's stuff makes me go "hmm."
Of course I'm just very OCD with mixing so I may be overthinking the entire situation and sounding great the whole time
I've only been producing for 3 months so I'm still acquiring my own sense of judgment w/ this stuff.
320 of the MIA mix:

I always thought Ableton exported too quiet, lol.

I compared it to Dubstep Allstars vol 4 and Fabriclive37 ...figuring they're decent benchmarks for pro sound. My mixes sounded louder, idk, just like.. everything in pro mixes seems more subtle.
What ver of ableton are you guys talking about?

Ableton doesn't have a louder output; it obeys the same laws of digital audio as all other apps. This is a matter of gain structure.

Seriously...
I've heard mixes that were HUGE from Ableton, and I have heard quiet-ass mixes... it is the mixing engineer (in most cases the composer/producer in the modern bedroom producing era) and the gain structuring they use...
I just can't believe people are still hyping on about the same myths years on...
3 years ago I had someone try to tell me that Ableton's output was inherently mushy and quiet... so I let 'em hear some Aaron Spectre / Drumcorps... they never said that shit again.

From the beginning this thread has been more about whether or not *my* mixes in Ableton are too loud or not. I do know that Ableton's sound engine allows for much higher peaks without digital distortion. So there's the ability to make things louder without them being obviously shit.
But still this has more to do with whether or not it would be a good idea for me to turn down my _own_ mixes.
Thanks for that thread up there Macc it's helpful! Damn I want
you to evaluate my mixes, lol.

I'm always thinking my mixes are too quite, blah blah blah. But then I remember, that's what Vol/Gain controls were invented for...

How do you know that?

Is there source for this info?

Consider it done... turn them down, they're clipping.
That'll be 25 quid please

I allways thought Ableton was too quiet, when you produce a tune and then drop it back in it's pathetic compared to other peoples tunes.
also, thanks for the 320!
