Oi, I'm a recently converted listener/turned wannabe creator of dubstep.
You'll have to excuse my spelling, and at times my grammar, I'm strung out on coffee and am off from work for the first time in a week.
I'm originally from the hardcore-grindcore-deathmetal scene, and when I say hardcore I mean the punk/metal moshtastic bloodfest, not the electronic kind.
But when I heard "Unknown Dub" and "Great Shape" on UK-based hardcore band Your Demise new album it was like a revelation, they're such a contrast to the bands energetic hardcore, without sounding misplaced.
I've diped my cup in some breakcore and goa at times, but the sheer power of dubstep has had me hooked.
At the moment I've been listening to some Benga, Caspa, Rusko, Skream and for some reason alot of Estonian dubstep.
Now I'm really, really interested in creating music, and was wondering if anybody could give me any tips on apps for PC like reason 4, FL7, goldwave and perhaps a few pointers. I've got very little experience in producing/editing/mixing seeing as I've only ever sung and at times played some bass.
I've got this... "idea" floating around in my head, a kind of dubstep-grindcore crossover, with some pigsqueal vocals and really heavy drops, but slower than ordinary grind, but still a breakcore-like sound.
Shit, that got messed up, trying to get out of my head.
What I'm asking for is not a "Dubstep for dummies"-guide, nor a list of artists that I should like to be considered "in"... and... uh... I kinda lost my train of thought. I'm confusing myself right now, but nevermind.
I'm well aware of the "search"-function and that there might be similar posts littering the bottom of the forum list, but If you have any of these post in mind, just link them!
Just post whatever you think would be helpful to a humble idiot willing to learn. Any tips are welcome mates, cheers!
