It's Dubstep Awards time!

I think we can all agree it's been a monumental year for dubstep. 2006 has seen the sound gain in popularity, stature and quality. This is the chance to vote for your favourites; those artists and moments which have meant the most to you this year.

Nominations open today, November 1st and will run through until December 1st. During December votes will be cast and the winners will be announced early in January.

All this depends on participation so please let's see as many people getting involved as possible.

If a category does not receive enough nominations then it will be dropped from the awards to it is important you makes yours known even if they've been added to the list already.

This should reflect the true feelings of the dubstep community.

RULES:

You can nominate as many times as you like in each category but repeat votes from the same individual will only be counted once.

Once nominations have been closed the most popular will go through to the shortlist from which you can vote for your favourite.

International categories exclude UK based artists.

big up to you boomnoise this is bare fun. it'll also be very interesting to see where things lie at the moment

one thing that i think needs clarification though is how the shortlist will be selected from the nominations...

i.e. if i see the name i would nominate already in the list, is there any point in me restating it?

Why not making polls instead of having hundres of things to add together? Makes more work for the first post but less in the end.

The polls are done in December for everyone to vote.

@elgato: yeah still vote otherwise they'll think it's not popular and not put it in the final polls.

the shortlist will be formed from the number of responses. the more nominations the better the chance of something going forward. if there isn't a set number of nominations then the award will not be voted upon.

you should nominate even if the name already appears.

This nominations process is just as much a chance to discuss the year's highlights as it is to nominate. The idea is that we won't end up with every conceivable ting on the list, whilst not missing anything / anyone that people feel really desrve recognition.

hows about having a sub-section for the awards/nominations? like the off topic and audio etc has. gets a bit confusiing with 20+ sticky: AWARD NOMINATION category threads all over the place, so this way the categories can be seen much more easily.
just a thought.

Yeah we're considering this coz it does look a bit cluttered. It might be that it gets ignored if we do that though - what do you reckon?

A subforum would be nice, you could still have one sticky thread linked to the subforum overview, if you know what i mean?

yea it would be goot to put them all in another sub section. Its a bit long to keep going all the way down to read the non stickies

us mods have discussed this and at the moment we still think it's best to leave it as is to encourage the maximum number of nominations.

obviously this can be reviewed at anytime.

please keep suggestions coming.

cheers

given the nature of things - how about a Best Unreleased Dub category!
Maybe pressure someone into releasing "forever"

tricky one. Best Tune should encompass dubs, yet more often than not it is released material being nominated. will give it some thought

Ez Boomnoise..What about a 'Best Remix' vote? probably already covered under 'Best Tune' yea?

Boomnoise - as there is a serious lack of true albums in the dubstep arena, how about a "Body of Work" award for 2006, as in which artist has released a consistently high standard of work, whether it be EP's, Dubs, white labels, unreleased stuff, etc?

good ideas both. mods will have a chat.
