futures_untold i can't thank you enough.

hey, so this is my first post ever on this site and i wanted to get some tips.
so i live in BC very close to where shambhala is held and iv gotten into the music alot and wanted to start not just mixing but making my own dub. im into datsik, excision, pendulum and others like that, i wanted to know what would be a good starter set up for me(what do i need not to pricey but not to cheap),

If you want to get tech later on, a decent soundcard is in order so you can have a 24bit workflow. But this is superflous to the core requirements, that a) you have a computer with a soundcard and b) said computer is used creatively to make music.

This is so fucking useful. I tried my hand at making dub and was blindly making tracks I was never happy with (not knowing proper technique) but I think this may just sort me out. cheers!

Okay I just heard this song by space laces (industrial fucking slamming fidget house with dubstep elements I guess). He remixed a song called torture by Figure. I was wondering, how in the hell did he do this? Is it mainly samples? If so, do you recommend any sample libraries? If he did all that via subtractive synthesis then I have a lot of work cut out for me. This song is the sickest song ever! Check it out and please give me some advice. I already hit him up last night but still waiting for a reply. This guy is going to be famous!

It seems you've got yourself well grounded in music tech judging by that kit list there...

Normally one might start a new thread to ask specific 'how did they make that?' style questions, but you're new so we'll turn a blind eye.

The tune in question probably used a wavetable synth and or the classic 'yoy bass' methods to create the bassline. I won't give you the details here, needless to say that if you dig through the bass thread you'll find more pointers than you can shake your synths at!

So briefly put, read this thread and apply the techniques noted within. Combine this with a basic drum pattern and apply some pumping from a compressor and you'll have created yourself a tune similar to the tune you posted.

Sweet! Thanks for the info. I'll have to get down to the nitty gritty once again lol. I'm working on a remix for Far East Movement featuring snoop dog and I want to blow them away with this style ; ). The thing is I've been lagging on the project and I must get it finished by this weekend hopefully. Hopefully the researching doesn't slow things down. Thanks again for the info man! I'll post the song up once I submit to their label.

I'm thinking about summing up the most useful and interesting informations here and translate it into german language for dubstep.de. This will be a year of work, I guess. But the advantage is, that I can seek all the knowhow at the same time translating it. - Would I have your permission to do that?
